Premier League: Louis van Gaal sees no reason to resign

Manchester United drew 0-0 with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday, recording their eighth consecutive match without a win. Manager Louis van Gaal was present at the post-match news conference and said he will not resign. The Red Devils are now five points away from fourth place. They have not gone eight matches without a win since 1990. However, they can blame bad luck for Monday's result as Juan Mata and Anthony Martial were denied by the woodwork. Van Gaal said: "When the players give such a performance with a lot of pressure, there's no reason to resign." On Boxing Day the Red Devils lost 2-0 at Stoke City but the manager is still relying on support from his players and from the club board. "The crisis here is the environment and you [the media] are part of that," the Dutch manager added. "The players are willing to fight for every metre. The manager is willing to fight. The members of staff are willing to fight and the board has every confidence in the staff and the manager." Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been recently linked with the Manchester United job, and Louis van Gaal admits he could get sacked any time. "In this crazy football world it can happen every day and also with me," he said. "When it happens to Jose Mourinho then it can happen with me."
