Manchester City have completed the signing of Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker in a deal worth an initial 45 million pounds plus another 5 million pounds in add-ons. If Manchester City would eventually end up paying the whole 50 million pounds, Kyle Walker would become the most expensive English player in the history of football. Walker has signed a five-year contract with Manchester City after having spent eight seasons at Tottenham. He has 27 caps for the English national team at the age of 27.
"I am thrilled to be signing for City and can't wait to get started," said Walker. "Pep Guardiola is one of the most respected managers in the world. I feel he can help me take my game to a new level." Walker had joined Tottenham from Sheffield United in 2009 and became a first-team regular at White Hart Lane after two seasons. He scored 4 goals in 228 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham but didn't manage to win any trophies with the Spurs, and that's probably one of the main reasons behind his decision to move at Manchester City.
Kyle Walker will wear the number 2 shirt at Manchester City and will probably have little competition for his place in the first eleven as the Citizens released their two right-backs this summer: Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna. They have tried to sign Daniel Alves from Juventus for the left side of the defense but the Brazilian decided to join Paris Saint-Germain this week. Walker is the third signing of the summer for manager Pep Guardiola, after the arrivals of AS Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva and Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Moraes.
Manchester City are 15/8 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
