Defending champions Manchester City will be looking for a swift return to winning ways when they host Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Last season Manchester City won this fixture 3-0, but the away match at Burnley gave them more than a headache as it ended 1-1. The two teams have also met in the FA Cup last season, and Manchester City won that match 4-1. Manchester City have won four of the last six direct matches in all competitions, while Burnley have last won against the Citizens in 2015 at Turf Moor. However, the Clarets have lost the last three away matches against Manchester City.
Manchester City got held to a goalless draw at Liverpool just before the international break, a result which left us with three teams tied on 20 points at the top of the Premier League table: Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool. That was the first match of the season in which the Citizens were unable to score, but it also was their fourth consecutive clean sheet in the Premier League. The Citizens have won all their four home matches in the Premier League this season, scoring 13 goals and conceding just two. Claudio Bravo and Eliaquim Mangala remain sidelined for the home side, while Danilo, Fabian Delph and Ilkay Gundogan are injury doubts.
Burnley are still trying to get to the level of performance that they have shown last season, and the last matches before the international break gave some encouraging signs. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last three Premier League matches, starting with a 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, then a 2-1 win at Cardiff and the 1-1 draw at home against Huddersfield just before the international break. Robbie Brady and Steven Defour have recovered from their injuries and even played in a friendly match during the international break, but defender James Tarkowski is an injury doubt after being pulled out of the England squad. Nick Pope, Ben Gibson and Steven Ward are all injured.
Probable line-ups:
Man City: Ederson - Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy - B. Silva, Fernandinho, D. Silva - Sterling, Aguero, Sane
Burnley: Hart - Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor - Gudmundsson, Westwood, Cork, Lennon - Barnes, Vokes
My prediction: Manchester City to win 3-0, the Citizens should be able to win this one easily.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Man City win - 1.07
Draw - 11.00
Burnley - 34.00
