Defending champions Manchester City are looking to get back to winning ways when they host Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening. Last season the Citizens defeated the Magpies 3-1 at home and 1-0 away, Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the match in Newcastle while in Manchester it was Sergio Aguero who delivered a hat-trick. Overall, Manchester City have won four of the last six direct meetings in all competitions. Newcastle have not beaten Manchester City since 2014, when they secured a 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium in a League Cup match.
Manchester City were having a perfect start to the season, but their winning streak was halted last weekend as they were held to an unlikely draw at newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers. Moreover, Wolves had quite a few chances to score, and that raises some questions about Pep Guardiola's defence. However, the previous matches did show a very determined and efficient Man City side, so Guardiola will most likely field the same starting eleven that defeated Huddersfield 6-1 two weeks ago. Danilo, Eliaquim Mangala, Kevin De Bruyne and Claudio Bravo are injured and won't be available for Saturday's match.
Newcastle are still looking for their first win of the season, the start of their campaign has been terrible so far and it might become even worse on Saturday. The Magpies have lost three of their four matches in all competitions so far this season, including a 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest earlier this week in the League Cup. Their last Premier League match was a 2-1 home defeat against Chelsea last weekend, a match in which manager Rafa Benitez parked the bus and hoped for the best. Isaac Hayden is suspended for this match, while Jonjo Shelvey and Florian Lejeune are injured.
Probable line-ups:
Man City: Ederson - Laporte, Kompany, Stones - B. Silva, D. Silva, Fernandinho, Gundogan, Mendy - Aguero, Jesus
Newcastle: Dubravka - Yedlin, Schar, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett - Ritchie, Diame, Sung-yueng, Kenedy - Rondon
My prediction: Manchester City to win 4-0, Newcastle won't be able to cope with them.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Man City win - 1.11
Draw - 11.00
Newcastle win - 26.00
