Premier League: Manchester City vs Southampton preview
Manchester City are looking to extend their Premier League winning streak to twelve games when they host Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. However, last season the Saints held them to a 1-1 draw in Manchester before losing 3-1 at St Mary's in the reverse fixture. Southampton have not won an away match at Manchester City since 2004, and they have lost four of the last six direct meetings in the Premier League. The direct meetings between the two sides have produced more than three goals in nine of the last twelve occasions. Manchester City just keep on winning, last weekend they seemed in difficulty as they were trailing 1-0 at half-time at Huddersfield, but Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling scored in the second half to give the Citizens all three points and keep them securely at the top of the table. Right now Pep Guardiola's men have an eight-point advantage over second-placed Manchester United, and an 11-point cushion over defending champions Chelsea. Benjamin Mendy and John Stones are injured and will miss out, while manager Pep Guardiola will probably rest some of the players that went the full 90 minutes at Huddersfield. Southampton ended a run of three matches without a win last weekend as they beat struggling Everton 4-1. That was their fourth victory of the season, but just one of those wins came away from home. The Saints are currently sitting in tenth place in the Premier League table, seven points behind the top six and just six points above the relegation zone. Jeremy Pied remains the only injury concern for manager Mauricio Pellegrino after Mario Lemina returned from his spell on the sidelines last weekend. Probable line-ups: Man City: Ederson - Danilo, Mangala, Otamendi, Delph - Gundogan, Fernandinho, D. Silva - B. Silva, Jesus, Sane Southampton: Forster - Soares, Van Dijk, Hoedt, Bertrand - Romeu, Lemina - Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Boufal - Austin My prediction: Manchester City to win 4-1. Here are the odds for the match at Bet365: Man City win - 1.19 Draw - 8.00 Southampton win - 15.00
