Manchester United have revealed that they have reached an agreement with Everton for the transfer of striker Romelu Lukaku in a deal worth 75 million pounds. However, Everton have not confirmed the agreement, saying that the negotiations are still ongoing. Manchester United have been looking for a striker all summer in order to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and if the deal for Lukaku goes through then they will probably give up on the possible transfer of Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.
Romelu Lukaku, aged 24, scored 25 Premier League goals for Everton last season and has rejected the proposal of a new contract at Goodison Park. Manchester United leave for a pre-season tour to the United States on Sunday and most likely they will try to have the Belgium international signed by then. Meanwhile, Everton also want a player from Manchester United, the Toffees are trying to bring Wayne Rooney back to his boyhood club in a deal that would surely please the fans.
Romelu Lukaku joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in 2011 for around 10 million pounds but the Blues loaned him out to West Bromwich Albion and Everton before selling him to the Toffees for 25 million pounds in 2014. He went on to score 71 goals in 133 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees and also scored 20 goals in 57 caps for the Belgium senior national team. If the deal goes through at 75 million pounds, it would become the most expensive transfer between two Premier League clubs, surpassing the deal taking Fernando Torres from Liverpool to Chelsea for 50 million pounds.
Manchester United are 10/3 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
