Newly-promoted Brighton will try to extend their unbeaten streak against the odds on Saturday as they travel to Old Trafford to face second-placed Manchester United. The two teams have last met all the way back in 1993, when Manchester United defeated Brighton 1-0 in the FA Cup. They have not played in the same league since 1983, when both clubs were in the second tier of English football, three years before Manchester United entered the Alex Ferguson era.
Manchester United secured a comfortable 4-1 victory over Newcastle United last weekend and also celebrated the returns of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo. However, this week they lost 1-0 at Basel in the Champions League, leaving the qualification race still open in Group A. Phil Jones and Michael Carrick remain injured, but Eric Bailly could recover in time. Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Nemanja Matic and David de Gea were rested in midweek and they should return to the starting eleven on Saturday.
Brighton are making their fans proud in their first ever season in the top flight, they have won four of their twelve Premier League matches so far and have not lost in five games. Last weekend they fought back from 1-0 and 2-1 down to secure a 2-2 draw at home against Stoke City. Their away record is not bad at all either, they have won two of their six matches on the road and lost three. Steve Sidwell is the only injury concern for Brighton ahead of Saturday's match, so manager Chris Hughton will field his usual starting eleven.
Probable line-ups:
Man United: De Gea - Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Young - Matic, Pogba - Martial, Mata, Rashford - Lukaku
Brighton: Ryan - Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Bong - Knockaert, Stephens, Propper, Izquierdo - Groß, Murray
My prediction: Manchester United to win 2-1.
