Two teams that are hoping for a top-four finish this season clash on Sunday when Manchester United host Tottenham at Old Trafford. Both sides are just outside of the top four at the moment, a win would mean a significant boost for either of the two. Last season both sides managed to claim victory in front of their own fans, Man United beat Tottenham 1-0 in Manchester, while the Spurs clinched a 3-0 victory in London. Tottenham have not won at Old Trafford since 2014.
Manchester United are on a decent streak, they are unbeaten in seven games in all competitions. That sounds good, but it really isn't that good. Last time out in the Premier League they got held to a 1-1 draw at Everton and it was their third consecutive 1-1 draw in the league. They have not won a Premier League match since the beginning of November, when they got a 3-1 victory at Swansea. Manager Jose Mourinho has less injury worries now, just Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw continue to be on that list.
Tottenham seem to be recovering from a terrible run, last weekend they smashed Swansea 5-0 at White Hart Lane, while this week they beat CSKA Moscow 3-1 in the Champions League to secure qualification to the Europa League knockout phase. Their recovery will be surely tested at Old Trafford and if the Spurs lose that match they will see Man United move nine points ahead of them in the league table. Erik Lamela and Vincent Janssen remain sidelined, but Toby Alderweireld and Ben Davies are back to full fitness.
Probable line-ups:
Man United: De Gea - Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Darmian - Herrera, Carrick - Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Martial - Ibrahimovic
Tottenham: Lloris - Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose - Wanyama, Dembele - Eriksen, Alli, Son Heung-Min - Kane
My prediction: 1-1 draw.
