Manchester United host Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday in a match that could decide which of the two teams takes possession of the second place in the Premier League table since they are tied on 20 points at the moment. Last season Manchester United beat Tottenham 1-0 at home, but then lost 2-1 at White Hart Lane. Tottenham have not won at Old Trafford since 2014, but the recent head to head record shows a perfect balance: three wins apiece and two draws in the last eight league matches.
Manchester United suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield last weekend, a result which ended their unbeaten streak in the Premier League. They did recover with a 2-0 victory at Swansea in the League Cup this week, but they need to get back to getting three points in the Premier League, otherwise leaders Manchester City might run away with the title. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones should return to action this weekend, but Paul Pogba has just resumed training and might not be ready to play yet. Maraoune Fellaini and Michael Carrick are set to miss out as well, along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo.
Tottenham did very well to beat Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley last weekend, but they got knocked out of the League Cup this week after losing 3-2 against West Ham at the same venue. They have not lost a Premier League match since August, when they were defeated 2-1 by defending champions Chelsea. Harry Kane had a slight knock and was not risked in the League Cup match but he should return to the starting eleven on Saturday. Victor Wanyama and Erik Lamela remain out of contention.
Probable line-ups:
Man United: De Gea - Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Young - Matic, Herrera - Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford - Lukaku
Tottenham: Lloris - Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen - Trippier, Winks, Dier, Alli, Aurier - Eriksen - Kane
My prediction: 2-2 draw.
