Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has committed his future to the club by signing a new five-year contract. The 26-year-old Egyptian winger had joined Liverpool from Serie A side AS Roma last summer for 34 million pounds and had an amazing season with the Reds, scoring 44 goals in 52 appearances. Mohamed Salah scored 32 goals in the Premier League last season and won the European Golden Boot award. The new contract will expire in 2023 and does not contain a release clause. Salah has just ended his adventure at the 2018 World Cup as Egypt were unable to get past the group stage.
"It demonstrates two things very clearly - his belief in Liverpool and our belief in him," said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Salah also won the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award and Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year. "I'm very happy to say I have signed a new contract with the club," the player said. "My first year at the club was an incredible experience for me and my family. I have to thank everyone at Liverpool and also the supporters. I know we can achieve a lot of things together."
"This news can be seen for what it is; rewarding a person who performed and contributed greatly for the team and the club last season," manager Klopp added. "We want world-class talent to see they have a home at Anfield where they can fulfil all their professional dreams and ambitions - we are working hard together to achieve this. When someone like Mo Salah commits and says this place is my home now, it speaks very loudly I think. Equally, our commitment to him says we see his value and want him to grow even more and get even better within our environment." Liverpool have signed right-back Fabinho from AS Monaco and central midfielder Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this summer, while Emre Can left the club as his contract expired.
