Newcastle United have broken their transfer record to sign Brazilian striker Joelinton from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim for a fee of 40 million pounds. The 22-year-old forward signed a six-year contract with the Magpies and becomes the first signing for new manager Steve Bruce, who replaced Rafa Benitez at Newcastle on Wednesday. Joelinton bagged 11 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions for Hoffenheim last season. He arrived at Hoffenheim from Brazilian club Sport Recife in 2015 and then was sent out on loan in Austria at Rapid Wien for two seasons.
This deal clearly breaks the previous transfer record for Newcastle, which was the fee of 20 million pounds they paid to Major League Soccer side Atlanta United for playmaker Miguel Almiron in January. Joelinton will wear the number 9 shirt at Newcastle, the number that was worn by club legend Alan Shearer. "I know it is a huge responsibility, the great Alan Shearer, the team's biggest idol wore it," Joelinton said. "I know it is a big responsibility, but I am prepared. I know it is a large investment that the club has made in me, and that comes with a huge responsibility. I know that everybody at the club has faith in me having brought me here. I hope to contribute on the pitch. I am happy and prepared. Rest assured there will be no shortage of desire and dedication to score lots of goals and honour the number nine shirt."
Joelinton skills and goals
Steve Bruce said: "The kid has got an exciting time ahead of him. He is a smashing young player and we are obviously delighted to get him. It is been going on for a little bit now, so to get him is great for everybody. He has got everything that a modern-day player wants. He is big, strong and athletic, and of course he's got age on his side too which is vitally important." Newcastle United lost three players this summer, central midfielder Mohamed Diame left on a free transfer, striker Joselu was sold for just over 2 million pounds to Alaves, while forward Ayoze Perez joined Leicester for 30 million pounds.
Newcastle finished 13th in the Premier League last season and now they are 10/3 at Bet365 to finish inside the top half of the table next season.

The Newcastle owner Mike Ashley have been often criticized by the fans he just think of his profits and not investing enough in the Newcastle squad, well he finally done something which would make the Jordie's happy for a while although the biggest part of the transfer amount came from the Perez sale. To be honest don't know anything of this player and right now the 40mill transfer looks like a gambling for me.
