Premier League: Newcastle set to sell Yohan Cabaye
Newcastle and Paris St-Germain have agreed a fee of around 20 million pounds for France midfielder Yohan Cabaye. The French club forwarded an offer of 14 million pounds on Sunday but Newcastle rejected it. Cabaye joined the Magpies in 2011 and now he will probably return to France after PSG made an offer that matched Newcastle's valuation of the player. Cabaye has scored 17 goals in 79 appearances for the Magpies. The player is set to fly to Paris for a medical on Tuesday and will not play in Newcastle's Premier League game with Norwich. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said earlier on Monday that he could not guarantee that the former Lille player will remain at St James' Park beyond the end of the month. "No, I'm not confident," Pardew said. "I don't think any team not in a Champions League position or fighting for a Champions League spot could be." Cabaye, who joined the Magpies for around 4.3 million pounds from Lille, refused to play for Newcastle in August after they rejected a £10m offer from Arsenal. Then he apologised to Magpies fans and in September insisted he was "happy" at the Premier League club. The rumours around his transfer were still there though and it seemed a move before January 31st was imminent. Paris St-Germain are the current French Ligue 1 leaders, three points clear of AS Monaco. They are also still in the Champions League, set to face Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16. PSG are 1/10 at Bet365 to win the French Ligue 1 this season while their odds to win the Champions League are at 14/1.
