Premier League leaders Manchester City are looking to extend their winning streak when they travel to face Newcastle United at St James' Park on Wednesday evening. The two sides have not met last season, because the Magpies were playing in the Championship, but two seasons ago Newcastle managed to snatch a 1-1 draw at home after a 6-1 thrashing at the Etihad Stadium.
Newcastle ended a terrible streak of nine games without a win with a 3-2 victory at West Ham last week. Before that match, they had lost eight of nine matches and it seemed the crisis would never end. Now the Magpies moved up to 16th place, two points above the relegation zone, and they really have nothing to lose against Man City. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Jesus Gamez are injured and won't be able to play for the home side.
Manchester City just keep on winning and scoring, last week they hammered Bournemouth 4-0 to record their 17th consecutive Premier League victory. They have scored a massive 60 goals in 19 league matches this season, by far more than any team in the Premiership. Benjamin Mendy and John Stones are still injured but Eliaquim Mangala should be able to play after being a substitute in last week's match.
Probable line-ups:
Newcastle: Elliot - Jedlin, Lascelles, Lejeune, Manquillo - Ritchie, Merino, Hayden, Atsu - Joselu - Gayle
Man City: Ederson - Danilo, Mangala, Otamendi, Delph - D.Silva, Fernandinho, Gundogan - B. Silva, Jesus, Sane
My prediction: Manchester City to win 3-1.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Newcastle win - 13.00
Draw - 6.75
Man City win - 1.25
