Defending Premier League champions Manchester City will be looking to record their ninth consecutive victory in all competitions when they visit Newcastle at St. James' Park today. The reverse fixture was not easy at all for the Citizens, they won it 2-1 with goals from Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker. That was the third consecutive win for the Citizens over the Magpies and the fifth in the last six direct matches. The last time Newcastle won a match against Manchester City was in 2014, when they managed to grab a 2-0 victory in the fourth round of the League Cup.
Newcastle have managed to climb out of the relegation zone thanks to a few good recent results, but they are still just two points above 18th-placed Cardiff in the Premier League table. Their most recent Premier League result is, in fact, the 3-0 victory over Cardiff, which allowed the Magpies to leapfrog their rivals and move out of the danger zone. Last week they were unable to follow up that performance with another positive result and they lost 2-0 at home against Watford in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Joselu, Karl Darlow, Paul Dummett, Mohamed Diame, Jonjo Shelvey and Ki Sung-yueng are all injured and expected to miss out, while Yoshinori Muto is still away at the Asian Cup.
Manchester City are in very good form, they have won their last eight matches in all competitions and have not conceded any goals in their last six games. Their latest Premier League match was the 3-0 victory at last-placed Huddersfield, and three days after that they secured their place in the League Cup final with a 1-0 victory at Burton. Last weekend the Citizens thrashed Burnley 5-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Benjamin Mendy has returned to action as a substitute against Burton but did not play at the weekend and he might miss Tuesday's match as well. Claudio Bravo, Eliaquim Mangala and Vincent Kompany are injured.

My prediction: Manchester City to win 2-1, it will be a tough one for the Citizens but they should be able to grab all three points.

Credit to Newcastle and Benites for the hard work and the fighting spirit they've shown after being one down just seconds into the game. Obviously that result didn't affect to negatively the City side who are on top of their form since then, but it have been a vital 3 pointer for the Geordies.
