Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like to make his appointment at Old Trafford permanent after having enjoyed a bright start to his spell in charge of the club. Solskjaer started his reign with four wins out of four matches, becoming the second manager in the club's history to achieve such a streak after Sir Matt Busby in 1946. Solskjaer was asked whether he will leave the club in May, and his reply was quite clear: "I don't want to". However, his contract with the Red Devils will run out at the end of the season and Norwegian club Molde are expecting him back as they insisted they are only "lending" him to Manchester United.
The Red Devils won their fourth consecutive match on Wednesday, when they defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at St. James' Park. Both goals were scored in the second half, substitute Romelu Lukaku put Manchester United ahead and then Marcus Rashford settled the score later on. Asked about matching Busby's achievement, Solskjaer said: "That will be in the books but it's nothing I'm thinking of. I'm just thinking about the next game, because if you win four you can win another four with this club. That's the challenge, that's the standard we're used to." Sir Matt Busby won five league titles as United manager.
Solskjaer started his reign at Manchester United with an impressive 5-1 victory at Cardiff, the only club he had previously managed in England. Then the Red Devils grabbed two consecutive wins at home, 3-1 over Huddersfield and 4-1 over Bournemouth, with Jose Mourinho outcast Paul Pogba scoring twice in each match. Overall, Manchester United scored fourteen Premier League goals in four matches under Solskjaer. The Red Devils are still sixth in the Premier League table, but they are now just three points behind fifth-placed Arsenal and six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
