Premier League: Southampton vs Liverpool preview

Souhampton will be praying for a miracle ahead of Saturday's Premier League match, they face title candidates Liverpool at St Mary's and the Saints are heavy underdogs before the game. Last season they lost 3-0 at Anfield and 3-1 at St Mary's against the Reds, so Liverpool now have four consecutive wins over Southampton. Before that streak the Saints had gone unbeaten in five competitive matches against Liverpool and had won three of them.

Southampton started their season with a disappointing performance and a 3-0 defeat at Burnley last week, a performance that might make their fans quite worried about another lengthy battle to avoid relegation. Last season the Saints finished 16th in the Premier League table, just five points above the relegation zone, and this summer they only brought in four new players. Four others left the club, including left-back Matt Targett and veteran midfielder Steven Davis. Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will most likely make some changes to his starting eleven after last week's poor performance.

Liverpool are enjoying the start of the season, last week they hammered Norwich 4-1 in the opening match of the Premier League campaign and this week they prevailed on penalties over Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup. Backup goalkeeper Adrian made a hero of himself by saving the decisive penalty kick, and that will give him enough confidence to get Liverpool smoothly past Alisson's injury layoff. Naby Keita and James Milner are injury doubts ahead of Saturday's game, while Nathaniel Clyne remains sidelined.

Probable line-ups:

Southampton: Gunn - Bednarek, Vestergaard, Danso - Valery, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Hojbjerg, Bertrand - Redmond, Adams

Liverpool: Adrian - Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson - Wijnaldum, Lallana, Henderson - Salah, Firmino, Mane

My prediction:

Southampton will try to hang in there and they should be quite determined, but Liverpool have what it takes to extend their winning streak over the Saints, I think the Reds will win 3-1.
