Caretaker head coach Tim Sherwood says Tottenham must choose their next manager quickly while Dutch media reports suggest Louis van Gaal could take over but only after this summer's World Cup. Sherwood led Spurs to a 3-2 win at Southampton on Sunday and he would surely want to take the job on a permanent basis. Van Gaal wants to stay as Netherlands head coach for the World Cup.
"I've always said that I want to work in the Premier League, so there's a chance," Van Gaal said. "Everyone who knows me knows I won't do two jobs at the same time. I've also read that Frank de Boer and Guus Hiddink were in the picture for the Spurs job." After the win at Southampton, Sherwood made no secret of his desire to take on the job full-time. "I need to speak to the chairman and I hope that'll happen sooner rather than later. I don't want the job for 10 minutes. I want it long term or not at all."
"These guys need a manager," added former midfielder Sherwood. "I enjoyed it today, but one swallow does not make a summer. If we lose on Boxing Day, it is all doom and gloom again. I will talk to the chairman to see what happens. It has to be right for the club first, then worry about me." Former Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle is also interested in the job.
