Swansea City have decided to sack manager Paul Clement after less than a year in charge. The Swans are currently at the bottom of the Premier League table after having won just three games all season. Clement took charge at Swansea in January and he managed to steer the club clear of relegation and a 15th-place finish. Chairman Huw Jenkins admitted that he is not keen on switching managers in the middle of the season, but this time something had to be done.
Jenkins said: "We felt we couldn't leave it any longer and needed to make a change to give the best chance of an uplift." Assistant managers Nigel Gibbs and Karl Halabi have also left the club following Clement's sacking. Paul Clement had previously worked as an assistant manager to Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea, Paris St-Germain and Real Madrid. He had just a short spell at manager at Derby County before the Swansea job.
Clement signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Swansea in January, he was the third manager at Swansea last season after Bob Bradley and Francesco Guidolin both got sacked. "We had three different manager last season and as a result we all wanted to give Paul as much time as possible to turn things around," chairman Jenkins added. "Paul has been at the club for 12 months and what he achieved in the second half of last season to keep us in the top flight was a tremendous feat."
Swansea are 10/3 at Bet365 to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.
