Top-four contenders Tottenham are looking to start 2018 with a victory as they travel to meet bottom side Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday. The Swans did well to secure a goalless draw in the reverse fixture in September, it was quite a surprise at the time. Last season Tottenham defeated Swansea in both league matches, 3-1 away and 5-0 at White Hart Lane, and have not lost a league match against the Swans since 1982. Swansea have not defeated Tottenham since a League Cup match all the way back in 1991.
Swansea ended 2017 with a much needed breath of air, they won 2-1 at Watford to remain within three points of safety. However, they remain at the bottom of the Premier League table after having won just four of their 21 matches so far and they still have the weakest attack in the league with just thirteen goals scored. They did have better form lately, they have won two of their six matches in December and also recorded a draw against Crystal Palace. Kyle Naughton is suspended for this match, while Kyle Bartley, Wilfried Bony and Ki Sung-yueng will have to face late fitness tests.
Tottenham ended the year in good form, they won 3-0 at Burnley before Christmas and then kept on scoring on Boxing Day to record a 5-2 victory over Southampton. They can leapfrog Arsenal into fifth place with a win at Swansea, but they will have to keep fighting and winning if they want a spot in the top four at the end of the season. Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama remain sidelined with injuries, but Harry Kane and Moussa Dembele are expected to overcome their issues and play on Tuesday.
Probable line-ups:
Swansea: Fabianski - Rangel, Fernandez, Mawson, Olsson - Narsingh, Fer, Mesa, Carroll, Dyer - McBurnie
Tottenham: Lloris - Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Rose - Sissoko, Dier - Son Heung-Min, Alli, Eriksen - Kane
My prediction: Tottenham to win 2-1.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
