Arsenal forward Theo Walcott is disappointed with the lack of opportunities to play at Arsenal this season and he is looking to leave the club on loan until the end of the campaign in order to boos his chances of making the England squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Walcott has made just 15 appearances for Arsenal this season and just six in the Premier League. His last match was last weekend's shameful 4-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. Theo Walcott is the longest-serving player in the squad at the moment and also one of the highest paid players at the club.
“I want him to stay,” Arsene Wenger said last Friday, amid reports regarding a possible loan move to Southampton. “I heard about Southampton's interest but I want him to stay.” Walcott scored 19 goals for Arsenal last season, despite not playing in the last ten matches of the campaign. Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino has admitted that he wants Walcott, but the England forward could also be a target for other Premier League clubs. Moreover, Serie A club AC Milan also seem interested in adding Walcott to their squad.
"I have been talking about him,” said Pellegrino. "He is a good player, but I don't know with the negotiations, with the market, I imagine that this type of player would have a lot of possibility. For us it's not easy. Hopefully we can bring somebody that can help us be stronger. This is our target now. We know the market is difficult, but we are working on that." Theo Walcott's contract with Arsenal runs out at the end of the current season, so he might even push for a permanent transfer away from the club in January.
Theo Walcott is 1/8 at SkyBet to leave Arsenal by the end of the January transfer window and he is 1/3 to join Southampton.
