Premier League: Tom Davies signs new Everton contract
Everton rising star Tom Davies tied his future to the club by agreeing to sign a new long-term contract. The new deal will keep the 20-year-old midfielder at Goodison Park until 2023. The youngster has played for the Toffees since he was 11 years old and he managed to become the youngest ever club captain. He made his senior debut in 2016 under manager Roberto Martinez, then became a regular first-team presence under Ronald Koeman, but dropped out of the first eleven under Sam Allardyce. This season manager Marco Silva didn't exactly employ Davies every week, but he did give him 13 starts in all competitions. "It's really important to secure Tom's future here at Everton. He's an important player for us now and he will be going forward, for sure," manager Marco Silva told Everton's official website. "He's had some very good moments this season, captaining the team and taking big responsibility on his shoulders. Even when he has not played because the competition is really tough, he has shown his desire in the way he works always. He’s a player from our Academy, he loves our Club and he will be a really important player in the years to come." Tom Davies was awarded the Man of the Match award on his first ever Premier League start, a 3-0 victory over Norwich in 2016. He has played for England at various youth levels, starting from Under-16 and up to Under-21. He represented England at the Toulon Tournament in 2018 and was part of the team that won the event. "I am made up to sign a new deal," Davies said. "It is all I have ever wanted since I was a kid and I am so happy. I feel the Club has faith in me and they’ve shown that by giving me this contract. I’m progressing all the time and this is the place where I feel I can develop. It is where I want to be. I’ve had some big moments here and I want to produce more of them and show everyone how good I am. My ambition has always been to win something here. I would love that and I know all the other lads would love it, too." Everton are currently ninth in the Premier League table, the last time they won a trophy was in 1995, when they lifted the FA Cup. Everton are 150/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
