Premier League: Tottenham sack manager Tim Sherwood
Tottenham have decided to part company with manager Tim Sherwood after the club finished sixth in the Premier League this season. "We agreed an 18-month contract with a break clause at the end of the season and we have now exercised that option," said club chairman Daniel Levy. Sherwood, aged 45, took over from Andre Villas-Boas in December and signed a contract that was valid until the end of the 2014-15 season. "We shall embark on the process of finding a new head coach," added Levy. Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax head coach Frank de Boer have been linked with the job but the list of candidates seems to be longer. Sherwood's last game in charge was the 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final match day of the Premier League season. After the match he claimed that he would have earned a top-four spot had he been in charge for the whole season. When he took over Tottenham were five points away from the Champions League spots but they ended the season 10 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
