Premier League: Tottenham vs Brighton preview

Tottenham are looking to bounce back to winning ways in the Premier League on Boxing Day, when they host Brighton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Last season the Spurs defeated Brighton 1-0 in London with a late goal from Christian Eriksen, but this season the Seagulls hammered Tottenham 3-0 in October. That was the first victory for Brighton agains Tottenham after 36 years, and overall the Spurs have won four of the last six direct meetings in all competitions.

Tottenham suffered quite a setback last weekend as they lost 2-0 against Chelsea in the London Derby, that result ended their two-game Premier League winning streak and dropped them to seventh place in the league table. They are now six points behind fourth-palced Chelsea, so they really can't afford any more slip-ups in the race for the top four. Son Heung-Min was sent off against Chelsea and is suspended for the following three matches, while Ben Davies, Erik Lamela and Hugo Lloris are out injured. Manager Jose Mourinho might choose to rotate some players because Tottenham will then face Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Brighton had their three-game unbeaten run snapped last weekend when they lost 1-0 at home against high-flying Sheffiled United. That was the seventh consecutive match in which the Seagulls have conceded goals, but the first without scoring after four games. Brighton have dropped to 13th place after that defeat, but they are still five points clear of the relegation zone. Jose Izquierdo and Solly March remain sidelined for the visitors, while manager Graham Potter might make some changes ahead of Saturday's home match against Bournemouth.

Probable line-ups:

Tottenham: Gazzaniga - Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose - Winks, Dier - Moura, Alli, Sessegnon - Kane

Brighton: Ryan - Montoya, Webster, Dunk, Burn - Mooy, Stephens, Propper - Gross - Maupay, Connoly

My prediction:

Tottenham can't afford any more slip-ups now, they are not in the best form but they should be able to grab a 2-1 win.
