Premier League: Tottenham vs Crystal Palace preview

Premier League: Tottenham vs Crystal Palace preview

Tottenham are desperate to make a return to winning ways, but they will have another tricky match to play on Saturday as they host Crystal Palace at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a London derby. Last season the Spurs won both Premier League matches against the Eagles, but they did get beaten 2-0 in the FA Cup. Overall, Tottenham have won five of the last six direct matches in all competitions, while Crystal Palace have not won an away match against the Spurs since 2016.

Tottenham are hoping to get a morale boost after the international break, and they could use the three points as well. They have not won any of their last three league matches and are already trailing leaders Liverpool by seven points. Their last fixture before the international break was the North London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, the Spurs had taken a two-goal lead in the first half but eventually had to settle for a 2-2 draw. New signing Giovani Lo Celso picked up a serious injury while on international duty with Mexico and will be out until the end of October, while Juan Foyth, Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon are sidelined as well.

Crystal Palace had a much better season so far, and they are two points ahead of the Spurs in the Premier League table. They didn't win any of their first two matches of the campaign, but then they recorded back-to-back wins against Manchester United and Aston Villa, with Jordan Ayew on the score sheet in both games. Central defender Martin Kelly got injured during the Aston Villa match and will most likely miss Saturday's game.

Probable line-ups:

Tottenham: Lloris - Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose - Sissoko, Winks - Lamela, Eriksen, Son Heung-Min - Kane

Crystal Palace: Guaita - Ward, Cahill, Sakho, Van Aanholt - McArthur, Milivojevic, Kouyate - Townsend, Ayew, Zaha

My prediction:

Tottenham have won just four of their last sixteen matches, but they do have enough quality in their squad to bounce back. The match against Crystal Palace will be difficult, but I believe the Spurs will snatch a 2-1 win.
