Third-placed Tottenham will be looking to consolidate their position in the Premier League table when they host West Ham United for a London derby at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday. The Spurs won the reverse league fixture 1-0 in October thanks to a first-half goal from Erik Lamela, and less than two weeks later they defeated the Hammers 3-1 in the League Cup with a goal from Fernando Llorente and a double from Son Heung-Min. Overall, Tottenham have won three of the last six direct matches in all competitions, while West Ham tasted victory on two occasions.
Tottenham have a pretty good situation at the moment, they are three points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea with three matches remaining in the season, so the third spot in the league table is theirs to lose. After West Ham they have to face Bournemouth away and Everton at home, but in between those games they have the two legs of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Ajax. This week the Spurs grabbed a 1-0 victory over Brighton to recover from last weekend's 1-0 defeat at leaders Man City. Serge Aurier, Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko remain sidelined, but Erik Lamela and Harry Winks could recover in time for this match.
West Ham don't have much left to fight for this season, they don't have any relegation worries but they can't hope to reach European qualification either. Last week they recorded a 2-2 home draw against Leicester City and that result left them in 11th place, five points behind 10th-placed Leicester. However, that draw interrupted a string of three consecutive defeats. The last victory that the Hammers managed to pull off was a laboured 4-3 success over already relegated Huddersfield. Andriy Yarmolenko, Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and Winston Reid are all injured, but Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere have recovered from their injuries and will play a part in this game.
Probable line-ups:
Tottenham: Lloris - Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose - Eriksen, Dier, Alli - Son, Llorente, Moura
West Ham: Fabianski - Zabaleta, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Masuaku - Noble, Rice, Snodgrass - Antonio, Arnautovic, Anderson
My prediction: Tottenham to win 2-0, the Hammers won't have sufficient motivation to cause major problems to the Spurs in this match.
