Liverpool have made a bid for Southampton captain Adam Lallana, according to a BBC report. The 26-year-old midfielder has been an essential player for Southampton this season, scoring 10 goals in 42 matches and also earning three England caps. He was included in England's World Cup squad by coach Roy Hodgson and has admitted that he would like to play at a higher level in the future.
"I'm ambitious," he said. "I want to one day play in the Champions League." Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger said he expected interest in the club's key players."The reason people look at our players is because the club does an excellent job developing them," Krueger said. "It should be difficult here every summer. It is really important that people respect that there will be conversations going on, beginning on Monday, with clubs. That is part of the business."
Luke Shaw is also being linked with a move to Manchester United who reportedly have made a bid of £27m for the left-back. Lallana came through the Southampton youth academy, the same route as Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He is also wanted by other top Premier League sides like Manchester United and Chelsea.
