Premier League side Watford have sacked their second manager this season, Quique Sanchez Flores lost his job less than three months after his appointment. His final match in charge was Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Southampton, a result which left the Hornets at the bottom of the Premier League table with just one victory in fourteen matches this season. Watford have collected just 8 points since the start of the campaign and are six points away from safety at the moment.
Quique Sanchez Flores replaced fellow Spaniard Javi Gracia on September 7, returning to Watford after having managed them in the 2015-2016 season. He did give them their first victory of the season, 2-0 at Norwich in November, but it was just one victory in ten Premier League games. They also suffered a memorable defeat during this spell, 8-0 at defending champions Manchester City. The Hornets also crashed out of the League Cup, where they lost to Everton in the fourth round.
"Quique is a man of great integrity and it was clear how much he wanted to have a positive impact, but ultimately results have dictated our decision," said Watford chairman Scott Duxbury. "The appointment of a new head coach is imminent, and with nearly two-thirds of the season remaining, we will provide all the support necessary to make the coming months successful." The last manager to have lasted a full season at Watford was Gianfranco Zola, since his sacking in December 2013 the Hornets have appointed no less than nine managers, including Quique Sanchez Flores on two occasions.
Watford are 13/8 at William Hill to avoid relegation this season.
