West Ham boss Slaven Bilic was dismissed by the club after a poor start to the season. The 49-year-old manager leaves the club in the relegation zone after having collected just nine points in eleven Premier League matches this season. Last weekend the Hammers were beaten 4-1 by Liverpool at London Stadium, a result which convinced the club board to end Bilic's spell. Former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes is set to replace Bilic on a contract until the end of the current season.
Bilic said: "There are no hard feelings. I can be very proud of my work here. We didn't start this crucial season well. As in many clubs across Europe, the manager is the one who pays the price. It's a very logical move." The Croatian is the fourth Premier League manager to lose his job this season after Frank de Boer (Crystal Palace), Ronald Koeman (Everton) and Craig Shakespeare (Leicester). Joint chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold issued a statement in which they praised Bilic's "honesty and integrity"
The chairmen added that the managerial change is "an exciting opportunity to appoint a quality manager to the position to inject fresh ideas, organisation and enthusiasm into a very talented squad." Coaching assistants Nikola Jurcevic, Edin Terzic, Julian Dicks and Miljenko Rak have also left the club with immediate effect. Bilic led West Ham to seventh place in his first season in charge, but then the Hammers finished 11th last season and got off to a terrible start to the current campaign with just two victories in 11 Premier League matches.
West Ham are currently 9/4 at Bet365 to get relegated from the Premier League this season.
