Struggling West Ham face a tough task on Saturday evening as title contenders Arsenal visit London Stadium for a city derby. Last season went well for the Hammers in the direct meetings with the Gunners, they won 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium and produced a fine performance for a 3-3 draw at home with a hat-trick from Andy Carroll. Arsenal had won ten consecutive matches against West Ham before last season and it's also worth mentioning that West Ham have not beaten the Gunners at home since 2006.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is under pressure and has been almost since the start of the season. First, the Hammers got knocked out of the Europa League even before reaching the group stage, then their Premier League form was extremely disappointing. They have won just three of their thirteen matches so far and have not tasted victory in any of their last four matches, two of which were lost. They are just one point above the relegation zone, a dangerous place to be with the halfway mark of the season approaching. Gokhan Tore, Diafra Sakho and Sam Byram are injured, Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio are also likely to miss out, while Andy Carroll might be forced to play despite not being fully fit.
Arsenal have snapped a three-game winless streak in all competitions with a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Sunday and they remain unbeaten in the Premier League since the opening day of the season. They did suffer a defeat on Wednesday in the League Cup, Arsene Wenger chose a rather experimental starting eleven against Southampton and it backfired as the Gunners lost 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. The French manager will revert to his usual eleven on Saturday, but Per Mertesacker, Danny Welbeck, Chuba Akpom, Hector Bellerin, Santi Cazorla, Mathieu Debuchy and Yaya Sanogo are still injured and Mohamed Elneny might also miss out.
Probable line-ups:
West Ham: Adrian - Nordtveit, Reid, Ogbonna, Masuaku - Noble, Kouyate - Ayew, Lanzini, Payet - Carroll
Arsenal: Cech - Jenkinson, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal - Xhaka, Coquelin - Walcott, Ozil, Sanchez - Giroud
My prediction: Arsenal to win 3-1.
