Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the transfer of AC Milan forward Patrick Cutrone for 16 million pounds. The 21-year-old Italian striker signed a four-year contract with the Wolves after having spent his entire career so far at AC Milan. He joined the youth academy of the Rossoneri in 2007 and ten years later he managed to make his debut for the senior team. He scored 27 goals in 90 appearances in all competitions for AC Milan, but the arrival of Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa in January moved him down the pecking order.
"The club really wanted me and being able to play in the Premier League for Wolves is fantastic," said Cutrone. "I'm very happy and want to give my all for the team." Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell added: "Patrick is an exciting signing at a very exciting period for this football club. We have a strong philosophy under the leadership of Nuno Espirito Santo, of bringing in the right type of people and developing young talent while staying humble and grounded as individuals, and we feel Patrick perfectly fits into our philosophy. We are very pleased to have a player of Patrick's ability join the club and look forward to him being a part of Nuno's squad in another historic season for Wolves."
Cutrone is the fifth signing of the summer for Wolverhampton, who have spent just over 62.5 million pounds on new players so far this summer. They have also sold and loaned out no less than 12 players for a total revenue of just over 101 million pounds. The most expensive signing of the summer was Mexican international striker Raul Jimenez, who joined from Benfica for 34.2 million pounds. Wolves have also signed Real Madrid central defender Jesus Vallejo on a season-long loan deal.
Wolves had solid performances throughout the season during the last campaign and managed to finish seventh in the Premier League. Now they are 4/1 at William Hill to finish in the top six next season.
