PremierLeague: Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to buy Newcastle United
Retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. has expressed his desire to invest into Premier League club Newcastle United and added that he would try to persuade Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to end his career with the Magpies. Mayweather earned around 100 million pounds for the last fight of his career when he took on Conor McGregor last year, and now he seems keen to invest some of that money in a football club. Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is willing to sell the club but he wants over 300 million pounds. "You better believe if I were to invest in Newcastle I would be back partying there often," Floyd Mayweather Jr. said in an interview with the Daily Star. "I love Newcastle. Those guys like to party as hard as any city I have been to anywhere in the world. I met some of the players last year - and they are good guys. I am always open to new business opportunities and I love all sports, but I invest with my head not my heart. Investing with your heart is the quickest way to lose money. But if somebody put together a business plan and my people looking over it and went 'Floyd that can make money' then I would invest. Soccer might not be my game but I've got connections everywhere." As for the Real Madrid star, Mayweather added: "Cristiano Ronaldo has been a long-time supporter and buddy of mine, so I might even be able to get him to finish his career off at Newcastle." Businesswoman Amanda Staveley tried to purchase Newcastle United earlier this season but eventually failed to get the deal over the line. Mike Ashley has been the owner of Newcastle United for the past decade. The Magpies have earned promotion from the Championship last season and now they are 13th in the Premier League table, four points above the relegation zone. Newcastle are 16/1 at Bet365 to get relegated from the Premier League this season.
