Two of the top teams in Spanish football clash at Satiago Bernabeu Stadium on Saturday, when fourth-placed Real Madrid take on third-placed Sevilla in LaLiga. Sevilla grabbed a convincing victory in the reverse fixture in September, it ended 3-0 with two goals from Andre Silva and one from Wissam Ben Yedder. That was the fourth consecutive home victory for Sevilla over Real Madrid in LaLiga, but the Blancos still enjoyed superiority in Madrid as they have won the last nine league matches at home against Sevilla. Last season Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 5-0 at Santiago Bernabeu with a double from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid are still battling to find some sort of consistency this season, their results have gone up and down since the start of the campaign and they are in real danger of finishing outside of the top four in LaLiga for the first time since the year 2000. Last weekend they fought hard to grab a 2-1 victory at Real Betis, Dani Ceballos scored the winning goal in the 88th minute. This week the Blancos lost 1-0 at Leganes in the Spanish Cup but they still advance to the next round thanks to their 3-0 victory in the first leg. Marcos Llorente, Toni Kroos, Thibaut Courtois, Mariano and Jesus Vallejo are all out injured, but Lucas Vazquez is available again after having served a one-match ban.
Sevilla are very hopeful of finishing inside the top four in LaLiga this season and their performances so far seem to fuel those hopes. However, their latest results have not been great, they have won just one of their last six league matches and are now tied on 33 points with Real Madrid, ten lengths behind leaders Barcelona. Last weekend Sevilla lost 2-0 at Athletic Bilbao, allowing fifth-placed Alaves to move just one point behind them. This week they lost again to Athletic Bilbao, 1-0 in the Spanish Cup, but they progress to the next round thanks to the 3-1 first-leg victory. Maxime Gonalons and Nolito are injured, while Roque Mesa is suspended.
Probable line-ups:
Real: K. Navas - Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Reguilon - Modric, Casemiro, Ceballos - L. Vazquez, Benzema, Junior
Sevilla: Vaclik - Carrico, Kjaer, Gomez - J. Navas, Banega, F. Vazquez, Escudero - Sarabia - Ben Yedder, A. Silva
My prediction: 1-1 draw, two inconsistent teams should produce a mutually detrimental result.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
