The 221st edition of the "Derby della Madonnina" will take place on Sunday, when city rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan clash at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. AC Milan have been in excellent form lately, in fact it all started with the Coppa Italia victory over Inter a couple of days after Christmas. Since then, AC Milan have not lost any of their matches in any competition and have won six of their eight Serie A matches. Moreover, they have qualified for the second knockout round of the Europa League and this week they have also booked their place in the Italian Cup finals after a penalty-shootout victory over Lazio. The Rossoneri are seven points behind fourth-placed Inter in the league table, so a victory in the derby could bring them back into the race for a top-four finish. Head coach Gennaro Gattuso doesn't have any injury concerns ahead of this match.
Inter had an absolutely terrible run between December and the end of February, even more so since they had not lost any matches all season before December 16. But on that day they got beaten 3-1 at home by Udinese, then they lost at Sassuolo and then got beaten by rivals AC Milan in the Italian Cup quarter-finals and only managed to return to winning ways on February 11 after a run of five consecutive draws. Last week they defeated Benevento 2-0, but they still have to prove themselves against a quality opponent like AC Milan. Head coach Luciano Spalletti has a clean bill of health ahead of this match.
