Serie A club Inter Milan have moved swiftly after having sacked head coach Luciano Spalletti on Thursday, on Friday morning an official statement from the club announced the appointment of former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte as head coach. Spalletti was still under contract with Inter until 2021, he led the club to their first Champions League qualification in six years during his first season in charge and this season he led them to a fourth-place finish in Serie A. However, they were knocked out at the group stage of the Champions League and only managed to secure their fourth place in Serie A on the last day of the season.
Antonio Conte had been out of work since last July, when he was dismissed by Premier League side Chelsea at the end of the season. He spent just two seasons at Stamford Bridge and was sacked even though he led the Blues to the Premier League title during his first season and also won the FA Cup. Conte has previously won three Serie A titles with Juventus and has also managed Bari, Atalanta and Siena during his career, along with the Italian national team.
"A new chapter in my life is beginning, I'm really excited," 49-year-old Conte said. "I have chosen Inter because of the club it is, because of how ambitious it is. I was struck by the club's transparency and the desire to bring Inter back to where it belongs." Inter president Steven Zhang expressed his conviction that he mad the right choice. "Antonio Conte is one of the best coaches out there," Zhang said. "I'm certain he'll help us achieve our objective and fulfil our mission, one which has always remained the same: to make this club one of the best in the world again."
Inter Milan have not won a trophy since 2011, when the secured the Italian Cup, and they have not won a Serie A title since 2010. Now they are 1000/1 at Betfair to win the Serie A title next season.
