Serie A: Atalanta vs AC Milan preview

Serie A: Atalanta vs AC Milan preview

AC Milan are hoping to extend their Serie A unbeaten run to five games when they visit Atalanta at Atleti Azzurri d'Italia Stadium in Bergamo on Sunday. Last season AC Milan won this fixture 3-1 with a double from Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek, while the reverse fixture ended 2-2. Overall, the last six direct matches produced no less than four draws, while the other two games delivered a victory apiece.

Atalanta have done what seemed impossible in the UEFA Champions League, they qualified for the first knockout round after having lost the first three matches in the group stage. Last week they pulled off a superb 3-0 victory at Shakhtar Donetsk to advance to the next round, but a few days later they lost 2-1 at Bologna in Serie A and dropped to sixth place in the league table. Now they need to get things back on track in Serie A, otherwise a top-four finish would become unreachable. Duvan Zapata is the only injury concern for the home side as Josip Ilicic and Alejandro Gomez are both back to full fitness.

AC Milan have been doing a better job in recent matches, they are unbeaten in the last four games but their terrible start to the season would need an amazing string of victories to be forgotten. After two consecutive wins, last week AC Milan got held to a goalless draw at home by Sassuolo and are currently tenth in the league table. Theo Hernandez and Lucas Paqueta are suspended for this match, while Leo Duarte is injured.

Probable line-ups:

Atalanta: Gollini - Toloi, Djimsiti, Palomino - Hateboer, Freuler, De Roon, Castagne - Pasalic - Gomez, Muriel

AC Milan: Donnarumma - Conti, Musacchio, Romagnoli, Rodriguez - Kessie, Bennacer, Bonaventura - Suso, Piatek, Calhanoglu

My prediction:

Atalanta are the better side and they should be able to win this match 2-1.
