AC Milan have sacked head coach Clarence Seedorf less than five months after he took charge and decided to name another former player as his successor, Filippo Inzaghi. Former Italy striker Inzaghi, now aged 40, has signed a two-year deal, stepping up from his role as a youth-team coach.
Seedorf, aged 38, had replaced Massimiliano Allegri in January with the club in 11th place in the Serie A table. He managed to win 11 of his 19 matches in charge but AC Milan finished eighth, no less than 45 points behind champions Juventus.
Former Netherlands international midfielder Seedorf joined Milan as a player in 2002, a year after Inzaghi signed for the club. Both left the team in 2012, with Inzaghi becoming a youth coach and Seedorf signing a playing contract for Brazilian outfit Botafogo. Milan won two Serie A titles and two Champions League crowns while Inzaghi and Seedorf were playing.
AC Milan are 12/1 at Bet365 to win the Serie A title next season.
