Serie A: Inter Milan sack Roberto Mancini

Inter Milan have confirmed the sacking of head coach Roberto Martini, less than two weeks before the start of the Serie A season. Things have not been going well between Mancini and the new club owners, Chinese group Suning Holdings. The Chinese consortium took over the club in June and it is believed they failed to bring in the players that the head coach had requested. Former Holland defender Frank De Boer is set to be appointed as Mancini's successor. De Boer has been without a job since may when he left the position of head coach at Ajax Amsterdam. He was linked with Everton and Southampton this summer, but the two clubs have eventually chosen Ronald Koeman (Everton) and Claude Puel (Southampton). This was the second spell for Mancini at Inter Milan, after having led them to three Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia triumphs between 2004 and 2008. He got sacked from Inter in 2008 and joined Manchester City, where he spent the next three and a half years before moving to Galatasaray in 2013. Frank De Boer has led Ajax to back-to-back league titles in 2014 and 2015 but last season ended in heartbreak as they lost the league title to PSV Eindhoven on the last day of the season.
