The 222nd edition of the Milan city derby, the "Derby della Madonnina", will take place on Sunday evening, when Inter and AC Milan clash at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. Last season Inter won the first of the two Serie A meetings 3-2 thanks to a late goal from Mauro Icardi, while the reverse fixture ended goalless. The two teams also met in the Italian Cup last season and AC Milan prevailed thanks to an extra-time goal from young forward Patrick Cutrone. Overall, each of the two teams have secured one victory in the last six direct matches in all competitions. Inter have won 78 of the 221 derby matches so far with 299 goals scored, while AC Milan have recorded 76 wins and scored 297 goals.
Inter had a rough start to the season, winning just one of the first four matches, but then they turned into another gear and won the following six matches in all competitions. Before the international break they secured a 2-1 Serie A victory at Spal, just a few days after their 2-1 Champions League victory at PSV Eindhoven. They are currently third in the Serie A table, but leaders Juventus are already eight points ahead. Head coach Luciano Spalletti doesn't have any injury concerns ahead of the big match as full-back Sime Vrsaljko has returned to full fitness.
AC Milan have lost just one match so far this season, 3-2 at Napoli on opening day, and since then have gone nine matches unbeaten in all competitions. Before the international break they secured consecutive 3-1 victories, first over Olympiacos in the Europa League and then over Chievo in Serie A. They are currently down in tenth place in the league table, but they have a match in hand over the other teams as their game against Genoa was postponed. Ivan Strinic and Riccardo Montolivo are injured for Gennaro Gattuso's side, but apart from them the head coach doesn't have any other fitness concerns.
Probable line-ups:
Inter: Handanovic - Vrsaljko, Skriniar, De Vrij, Asamoah - Vecino, Brozovic - Politano, Nainggolan, Perisic - Icardi
AC Milan: Donnarumma - Calabria, Mussacchio, Romagnoli, Rodriguez - Kessie, Biglia, Bonaventura - Suso, Higuain, Calhanoglu
My prediction: Inter to win 3-2, Spalletti's team looks stronger at the moment.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Inter win - 2.40
Draw - 3.25
AC Milan win - 3.10
