Defending champions and title favourites Juventus host bitter rivals Fiorentina on the opening day of the Serie A season in Turin, with both sides featuring several new faces in their squads. Juventus have won both matches against Fiorentina last season, 3-1 at home and 2-1 in Florence. Fiorentina have not beaten their rivals in a league match since October 2013.
Juventus have sold two of their players this summer, midfielder Paul Pogba and striker Alvaro Morata, receiving over 100 million pounds for the pair. But they have also bought at least four great players, starting with right-back Daniel Alves and ending with the record-breaking move of Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain. Midfielders Miralem Pjanic and Marko Pjaca came through in between, both with excellent prospects for making an impact in Turin.
Fiorentina have not done any major deals this summer, they sold striker Mario Gomez and have brought in several young prospects along with a few established names, but no real stars joined the club. Striker Giuseppe Rossi returned from loan though and he could well be the most important move of the summer for the Viola. Borja Valero is struggling with an ankle injury but might recover in time for the match.
Probable line-ups:
Juventus: Buffon - Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini - Alves, Khedira, Pjanic, Asamoah, Sandro - Mandzukic, Dybala
Fiorentina: Tatarusanu - Tomovic, Rodriguez, Astori - Bernardeschi, Vecino, Badelj, Alonso - Borja Valero - Rossi, Kalinic
My prediction: Juventus to win 3-1.
