Serie A top-four candidates Roma and Atalanta clash at the Olympic Stadium in Rome on Wednesday in a match that could put one of the two teams on the right path towards their objective. Last season these teams produced two highly spectacular matches in the Italian top flight, and both games ended 3-3. Overall, Atalanta have won two of the last six direct encounters, while Roma have grabbed just one victory. Moreover, Roma have not won at home against Atalanta since 2014.
Roma are one of the just three teams in Serie A to remain unbeaten after four matches, but they have won just the last two. Last weekend they recorded their first away win of the season, 2-1 at Bologna, but also recorded their fourth consecutive match without a clean sheet this season. Roma have conceded a massive 7 goals so far, but they have also scored an impressive 10. Gianluca Mancini is suspended for this match after being sent off last weekend, while Davide Zappacosta, Cengiz Under and Diego Perotti are injured.
Atalanta have established themselves as one of the top six teams in Italy in the last few seasons, and they even managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League at the end of the last campaign. However, their life in Europe's top competition started with a 4-0 thrashing at Dinamo Zagreb last week, and at the weekend Atalanta got held to a 2-2 draw at home by Fiorentina. They have won just two of their four Serie A matches so far this season, both away from home, and have conceded in each game.
Probable line-ups:
Roma: Lopez - Florenzi, Fazio, Jesus, Kolarov - Cristante, Veretout - Zaniolo, Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan - Dzeko
Atalanta: Gollini - Toloi, Palomino, Masiello - Hateboer, De Roon, Freuler, Gosens - Gomez, Ilicic - Zapata
My prediction:
There will surely be goals in this match, both sides have plenty of attacking flair and both have quite a few problems at the back. I also think we'll see yet another draw between these two, probably 2-2.
Here are the odds for the match at NetBet:
Roma win - 2.25
Draw - 3.70
Atalanta win - 2.95
