Southampton vs Everton Premier League betting preview
Southampton will be looking to continue their recent revival with another success when they face Everton at St. Mary's on Saturday. The Toffees won the reverse Premier League fixture 2-1 in August, Theo Walcott and Richarlison scored in the first half and Danny Ings reduced the arrears for the Saints after the break. The two teams have also met in the League Cup in October, and the Saints won that match on penalties. Overall, the last six direct matches in all competitions show a perfectly balanced record, with two victories apiece and two draws. However, Everton have not won a match at St. Mary's since 2015. Southampton seem to have found fresh ideas and a more positive attitude under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, the Austrian took charge on December 5 and since then the Saints have won three of their seven Premier League matches. That number alone doesn't mean much, but if you consider that the team had won just one of their fifteen matches up to that point, then things get placed into a clearer perspective. Last weekend the Saints grabbed a 2-1 victory at Leicester, but this week they got knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties by Derby County. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Charlie Austin and Yan Valery are all available again after suspension, but Mario Lemina, Danny Ings and Ryan Bertrand are injury doubts. Maya Yoshida is still away at the Asian Cup, while Michael Obafemi is injured. Everton are having a mediocre season so far, manager Marco Silva has been unable to find the kind of consistency he was looking for. The Toffees have never won more than two consecutive matches this season, and right now they have won their last two. The winning streak started with a 2-1 victory over Lincoln in the FA Cup, and last weekend the Toffees defeated Bournemouth 2-0 in the Premier League. They are tenth in the Premier League table, definitely clear of any relegation concerns but also pretty far from the top six. Manager Marco Silva has a clean bill of health ahead of this match. Probable line-ups: Southampton: McCarthy - Bednarek, Stephens, Vestergaard - Valery, Romeu, Hojbjerg, Targett - Armstrong, Redmond - Austin Everton: Pickford - Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Digne - Gueye, Gomes - Lookman, Sigurdsson, Richarlison - Calvert-Lewin My prediction: 1-1 draw, the new Southampton is very difficult to beat. Here are the odds for the match at Bet365: Southampton win - 2.70 Draw - 3.20 Everton win - 2.62
