As some of you may already be aware of, Sportech has been hard at work, trying to complete the sale of its Football Pools business, and the brand has just made serious headway as of recent. More specifically, the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has just granted Sportech an official operating license, a move that has catapulted the brand in the right direction, toward officially completing the sale.
An interest in acquiring the pools has been shown by private equity investors, OpCapita, and will be completed in an £83m deal through FP Acquisition. Following the recent license awarded to Sportech, the investors have satisfied all conditions necessary for the sale, which is predicted to be completed by the end of June.
Ian Penrose, chief executive of Sportech, stated, "This is a significant step towards completion of this transaction. I would like to thank the dedicated management, staff and customers who have enhanced the history and success of the Football Pools. I wish them all continued success."
Founder and chief executive of OpCapita, Henry Jackson, added, "We are pleased to have secured licencing so that we are able to move forward with our plans for the Football Pools. We look forward to taking ownership of the business later next month."
