Spanish champions Barcelona will be looking to recover from last weekend's shock defeat when they face Celtic on Tuesday in their first Champions League match of the season. On Saturday Barcelona were stunned at home by newly-promoted Alaves, in a match that saw Luis Enrique's side play without two of their stars: Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Celtic have beaten Barcelona just once, it happened in the Champions League in 2014 but that match was played in Glasgow. In 2004 a match between these two sides at Camp Nou ended 1-1.
After a perfect start to the season with four wins on the bounce, Barcelona suffered a shock defeat at home to Alaves last weekend. The result does raise some questions about the team's level of play ahead of the Champions League campaign start, and the players will surely be determined to silence the critics right away. Messi and Suarez will play on Tuesday, the only doubtful players are Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Andre Gomes.
Celtic have been in good shape so far as they had to go through two qualifying rounds before getting to the Champions League group stage. First they knocked out Kazakh side FC Astana and then they went past Hapoel Beer Sheva after a 5-2 win at home and a 2-0 loss away. That defeat is the only one they recorded this season. Leigh Griffiths is the only fitness doubt as manager Brendan Rodgers has his full squad at his disposal.
Probable line-ups:
Barcelona: ter Stegen - Roberto, Mascherano, Pique, Alba - Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta - Messi, Suarez, Neymar
Celtic: Vries - Lustig, Toure, Sviatchenko, Tierney - Forrest, Rogic, Brown, Bitton, Sinclair - Dembele
My prediction: Barcelona to win 4-1.
