Tottenham visit Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday for a clash that could well decide which team will qualify to the knockout phase of the competition from Group E. Tottenham are currently second with three points out of two matches, while Leverkusen are third after having secured two draws so far. The two teams have only met once before, it happened in the Europa League in 2006 and Tottenham won 1-0 in Germany.
Bayer Leverkusen are still unbeaten in this season's Champions League, they started out with a 2-2 draw at home with CSKA Moscow and then secured a solid 1-1 away draw at group leaders Monaco. In the Bundesliga things have not been going so smoothly, they already lost three matches out of seven and they find themselves lurking around the middle of the table. Karim Bellarabi, Joel Pohjanpalo and Vladlen Yurchenko are injured and will miss out.
Tottenham have lost just one match so far this season and that was in the Champions League, at home, against group leaders Monaco. They recovered from that defeat with a 1-0 victory at Spartak Moscow last time out, but they still need to get something out of the Leverkusen match in order to preserve their chances of pulling through. Last weekend they secured a 1-1 draw at West Brom in the Premier League, extending their league unbeaten run to eight matches. Harry Kane is still out with an ankle injury.
Probable line-ups:
Leverkusen: Leno - Henrichs, Toprak, Tah, Wendell - Brandt, Kamper, Aranguiz, Calhanoglu - Volland, Chicharito
Tottenham: Lloris - Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Rose - Wanyama, Dembele - Lamela, Alli, Eriksen - Son Heung-Min
My prediction: 1-1 draw.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Leverkusen win - 2.20
Draw - 3.50
Tottenham win - 3.50
