UEFA Champions League: Borussia Dortmund vs Inter preview

Borussia Dortmund and Inter play the match that could decide which of the two teams qualifies for the UEFA Champions League knockout phase, the two sides clash on Tuesday at Signal Iduna Park and the winner will get a significant advantage in the race for second place in Group F. Two weeks ago Inter clinched a massive result when they beat Dortmund 2-0 in Milan with goals from Lautaro Martinez and Antonio Candreva, without that victory they would have been in a desperate situation. Overall, Inter have won three of the five direct meetings with Dortmund in European competitions.

Borussia Dortmund have lost just one of their last eleven matches in all competitions, and that was the match against Inter in October. After that defeat they secured a goalless draw at Schalke in the Bundesliga, edged past Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Cup and then won 3-0 at home against Wolfsburg last week. They are currently tied with Inter on 4 points in the group table, three points behind leaders Barcelona, who should be able to collect another victory against Slavia Prague. Marcel Schmelzer and Marco Reus are injured and won't make the squad for the home side.

Inter are having a very good season so far, they finally seem capable of challenging for the Serie A title and in the UEFA Champions League they are definitely pushing Barcelona and Dortmund for qualification from Group F. After the 2-0 victory over Dortmund they had a slight mishap in Serie A as they got held to a 2-2 draw at home against Parma, but then bounced back with victories over Brescia and Bologna, both away from home. Danilo D'Ambrosio, Stefano Sensi and Alexis Sanchez are injured for the visitors.

Probable line-ups:

Dortmund: Burki - Piszczek, Akanji, Hummels, Guerreiro - Witsel, Delaney - Hakimi, Brandt, Hazard - Alcacer

Inter: Handanovic - Godin, De Vrij, Skriniar - Candreva, Barella, Brozovic, Gagliardini, Asamoah - Martinez, Lukaku

My prediction:

Both sides have been playing well this season and are looking solid, so I expect a 2-2 draw.
