Big appointment in UEFA Champions League Group E on Wednesday evening as favourites Liverpool and Sevilla meet at Anfield Road. The two teams are expected to clinch the top two spots in the group ahead of Spartak Moscow and Maribor, but we might witness some upsets along the way. The two teams have last met in the 2016 UEFA Europa League final and that time Sevilla clinched a 3-1 victory and the trophy. It's interesting that none of the two goalscorers, Kevin Gameiro and Coke, is playing for Sevilla anymore as both got sold to other clubs.
Liverpool had a good start to the season up to last weekend, they breezed past Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-offs and had two victories and a draw in the Premier League. Things turned wrong on Saturday as they got thrashed 5-0 at Manchester City after Sadio Mane got sent off in the first half. Philippe Coutinho didn't play at the Etihad Stadium but he should make an appearance on Wednesday, while Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andrew Robertson could also find spots in the starting eleven.
Sevilla also had to go through the Champions League playoffs and they qualified after a 2-1 away victory and a 2-2 draw at home against Turkish side Basaksehir. They are still unbeaten this season after having recorded a draw and two wins in LaLiga, last weekend they eased to a 3-0 home victory over Eibar. Central defender Simon Kjaer was rested last weekend and should regain his place in the starting eleven, while new signings Nolito and Johannes Geis won't make the trip to England.
Probable line-ups:
Liverpool: Mignolet - Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Robertson - Wijnaldum, Henderson - Salah, Coutinho, Mane - Firmino
Sevilla: Rico - Mercado, Kjaer, Lenglet, Escudero - N'Zonzi - Navas, Ganso, Banega, Sarabia - Yedder
My prediction: Liverpool to win 2-1.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Liverpool win - 1.70
Draw - 4.20
Sevilla win - 5.00
