Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk travel to Rome to face AS Roma at the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie. The Ukrainians won the first leg 2-1, Cengiz Under put Roma ahead before half-time but Facundo Ferreyra and Fred turned things around for Shakhtar in the second half. That was the fourth consecutive win for Shakhtar against Roma, the Ukrainians knocked out the Italians at the same stage of the competition in 2011.
Roma had a tough time after the first leg as a few days later they lost at home against AC Milan in Serie A, but then they recovered in style with a 4-2 victory at leaders Napoli and a 3-0 home win over Torino last weekend. Roma have not lost any of their home matches in the Champions League group stage and managed to beat Chelsea 3-0. Rick Karsdorp is the only injury concern for the home side, while Edin Dzeko and Federico Fazio will return to the starting eleven after having missed the weekend match through suspension.
Shakhtar Donetsk are in stellar form at the moment, they have won all their five matches in all competitions since returning from the winter break and conceded just one goal, against AS Roma. Moreover, they have scored a massive 16 goals in their four league matches after the winter break, so they will be full of confidence ahead of the second leg in Rome. Sergey Krivtsov picked up a knock in the first leg and might have to sit this one out, while Maksim Malyshev is also injured.
Probable line-ups:
Roma: Alisson - Florenzi, Manolas, Fazio, Kolarov - De Rossi, Strootman - Under, Nainggolan, Perotti - Dzeko
Shakhtar: Pyatov - Butko, Ordets, Rakitskiy, Ismaily - Fred, Stepanenko - Marlos, Taison, Bernard - Ferreyra
My prediction: AS Roma to win 1-0.
