Surprising Sevilla have to face another giant, they host Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Tuesday in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. The two teams have never met before in an European competition, quite strange considering that both sides have a strong continental pedigree. Sevilla have won 12 of their 20 previous meetings against German teams, while Bayern have defeated Spanish teams 25 times in 55 matches.
Sevilla is probably the most surprising name in this season's Champions League last eight, they were the underdogs in the previous round against Manchester United but somehow they pulled off a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford after a goalless draw at home. However, that was their only victory in the last four matches in all competitions and they are in danger of dropping out of the top six in LaLiga. Last but not least, Ever Banega is suspended for the first leg and that might make a very big difference for the home side.
Bayern Munich seem to be cruising on all fronts these days, they recorded a comfortable 8-1 aggregate victory over Besiktas in the previous Champions League round and last weekend they defeated Borussia Dortmund 6-0 in the Bundesliga. They are no less than seventeen points clear at the top of the league table with six matches left in the season, so most likely they will celebrate the title with five games to spare. Kingsley Coman is injured, while goalie Manuel Neuer has returned to training but might sit this one out.
Probable line-ups:
Sevilla: Rico - Mercado, Kjaer, Lenglet, Escudero - N'Zonzi, Pizzarro - Sarabia, Vazquez, Correa - Muriel
Bayern: Ulreich - Kimmich, Boateng, Hummels, Alaba - Rodriguez, Martinez, Vidal - Robben, Lewandowski, Ribery
My prediction: Bayern Munich to win 2-0.
Here are the odds at NetBet:
Sevilla win - 5.25
Draw - 4.20
Bayern win - 1.66
