Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen will continue their struggle for qualification from Champions League Group E when they meet at White Hart Lane on Wednesday. Two weeks ago Tottenham were quite fortunate to hold out for a goalless draw in Leverkusen as the Germans dominated most of the game and had a few clear cut chances to score. That was the second direct meeting between the two sides, the first one on was in the Europa League in 2006 when Tottenham won 1-0.
Things are getting dark for the Spurs, after a great start to the season they are now on a five-match winless streak. It's true that they only lost one of those five matches, in the League Cup against Liverpool, but those draws really hurt their standing in the Premier League table. Last weekend they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Leicester and another draw against Leverkusen would keep them in with a good chance to qualify, but their confidence might sink even further. Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela are injured, while Harry Kane is not yet ready to play after having recovered from an ankle injury.
Leverkusen are having trouble as well, their Bundesliga season is not going too well as 10th in the league table after having recorded four wins, one draw and four losses so far. Last week they got knocked out of the German Cup by a third-league side, but they recovered with a 2-1 victory at Wolfsburg last weekend. Lars Bender, Karim Bellarabi and Joel Pohjanpalo are all injured, while Omer Toprak and Jonathan Tah might also miss out along with Vladlen Yurchenko.
Probable line-ups:
Tottenham: Lloris - Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Rose - Wanyama, Dembele - Sissoko, Alli, Son Heung-Min - Janssen
Leverkusen: Leno - Henrichs, Toprak, Tah, Wendell - Brandt, Baumgartlinger, Aranguiz, Kampl - Kiesling, Chicharito
My prediction: Tottenham to win 2-1.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Tottenham win - 2.00
Draw - 3.60
Leverkusen win - 4.00
