Tottenham kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a very tough match against German side Borussia Dortmund at White Hart Lane on Wednesday evening. The two teams will also have to battle against Real Madrid in Group H, while APOEL will be the outsiders. Tottenham and Borussia met in the last-sixteen of the UEFA Europa League in 2016 and Dortmund pulled through after a convincing 3-0 victory at home and a 2-1 victory in England. Star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored three of the five goals.
Tottenham won 3-0 at Everton last weekend, a much-needed victory for Mauricio Pochettino and his men following a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Burnley and a 2-1 defeat against champions Chelsea. Dele Alli will be unavailable as he serves the first of his three-match suspension after being sent off in the Europa League last season. Danny Rose, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Victor Wanyama are injured and will sit this one out, while Moussa Sissoko picked up a knock last weekend and might miss out as well.
Borussia Dortmund started their season with a defeat against Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup, but they produced a positive performance and eventually lost the penalty shoot-out. Then they secured three wins and a draw in all competitions, with nine goals scored and none conceded. Last weekend they clinched a goalless draw at Freiburg. However, head coach Peter Bosz has quite a few injured players, including Andre Schurrle, Marcel Schmelzer, Marc Bartra, Julian Weigl, Erik Durm and Rephael Guerreiro.
Probable line-ups:
Tottenham: Lloris - Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen - Trippier, Winks, Dier, Dembele, Davies - Eriksen - Kane
Dortmund: Burki - Piszczek, Toprak, Sokratis, Zagadou - Gotze, Sahin, Castro - Pulisic, Aubameyang, Philipp
My prediction: 1-1 draw.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Tottenham win - 2.68
Draw - 3.60
Dortmund win - 3.10
